YOU CAN’T STAY HERE

Pastor Chris Fullam

Text: Genesis 12:1 (NLT)

“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.’”

So many of us are chasing moments and experiences that make us feel something… but we’re not being changed. What we really need is not another experience. What we really need is a word from God.

Abram was not driven by culture, trends, or emotion. He was anchored by revelation.

Proverbs 29:18 (NKJV)

“Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.”

Abram didn’t follow trends. He didn’t react to headlines. He didn’t move based on comfort, opportunity, or emotion. Abram moved because the Lord said.

1. LEAVE

This command is not primarily about geography. Yes, Abram changed locations – but this command goes much deeper than movement.

  • Country – Leaving the systems that shape how you think
  • Relatives – Leaving the voices that influence your decisions
  • Father’s house – Leaving old sources of identity and security

Leaving is the obedience that creates space for God to lead.

2. GO

“Go” is not reckless movement. It is responsible obedience.

Go is:

  • Movement with dependence, not independence
  • Usually ordinary, not dramatic
  • Not knowing the land, but trusting the guide

Psalm 119:105

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

  • Revelation comes along the way
  • Direction unfolds through obedience
  • Clarity comes as you go, not before

Why This Matters

  • Leave challenges what we are holding on to
  • Go challenges what we keep putting off

Abram didn’t chase experiences. He responded to a word. And that one word sustained decades of obedience. That obedience changed the world.

You can’t stay here!
