Yahweh Jireh

The Mystery of God

Main Texts: Psalm 103:1–5; Exodus 17:8–16 (ESV)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
(Psalm 103:1–5, ESV)

The Year of the Great I Am

Remember… His names, attributes, and promises are inseparable.

• Yahweh – God is who He is.

• Yahweh Tsidkenu – The Lord Our Righteousness

• Yahweh Rapha – The Lord Our Healer

• Yahweh Nissi – The Lord Our Banner

• Yahweh Jireh – The Lord Will Provide

Yahweh Jireh: The God Who Perceives and Provides

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.
14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

(Genesis 22:13–14, ESV)

The word Jireh doesn’t just mean “The Lord Will Provide”—it also means “to see.”

The Lord didn’t learn about your need when you did—He always saw it. He already made provision available, long before you even knew you had a need.

He’s not reacting to your needs—He’s already made a way.

El Shaddai: The All-Sufficient One

“Whatever God is, and all that God is, He is in Himself.” – A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy

God is entirely complete within Himself—lacking nothing and dependent on no one.

He does not need a relationship with us… But in His goodness, He chooses us.

He doesn’t just want us to see Him as generous—He wants us to know He is sufficient.

God Invites Our Participation in His Provision

(1 Kings 17:8–16)

The widow had only a handful of flour and a little oil… yet she gave what she had.

She couldn’t see what God had already seen.

In my hands, it’s never enough.

In God’s hands, it’s more than enough.

God makes all He has available to us when we make all we have available to Him.

Key Thought:

Provision is waiting on the other side of obedience.

What is God asking you to giverisk, or trust Him with—even when it feels like you don’t have enough?

You Can Position Yourself to Receive Yahweh Jireh’s Provision

“For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
(Matthew 25:29, ESV)

Surrender is one side of the provision equation.

Stewardship is the other.

Ask yourself:

What does He see in me?

Can He trust me with what I’ve been entrusted?

Steward the Flow of His Blessing

• I faithfully direct the inflow and outflow (Budget).

• I eliminate leaks (Debt).

• I wisely invest (Sow into Kingdom purpose and people).

He sees… and then He provides.

“We often ask, ‘Will God provide?’—but God asks, ‘Will you trust Me?’”
