WINNING WITHOUT LOSING YOURSELF
Series: Upside Down Kingdom | Pastor Daniel Norris
How do we win without losing ourselves in the process?
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 (ESV)
You can win the race everyone else sees… while losing yourself in the process.
Winning means very little if you lose yourself along the way. “It’s purity of heart that keeps you from drifting.”
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8, ESV)
Pure – katharos: unmixed, undiluted, free from contamination.
Purity is about removing what doesn’t belong.
Heart – kardia: is the control center of your life.
A purified heart is a person living their life without divided affection.
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23, ESV)
The drift is never just an action problem. It is always a heart problem.
🟡 1. GUARD YOUR HEART DURING THE CAUTION SEASONS OF LIFE
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump, (Galatians 5:7–9, ESV)
Seasons Of Caution:
– Seasons of exhaustion
– Seasons of transition
– Seasons of isolation
– Seasons of frustration
– Seasons of elevation
Sometimes the answer isn’t to push harder, but to pit wiser
🔴 2. DON’T GET CAUGHT IN THE CARNAGE
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)
Weights That Hinder
– Not sin… it’s anything unnecessary.
– Stress you haven’t surrendered.
– Responsibilities God didn’t call you to carry.
– Expectations you/others placed on yourself.
Sins That Cling Closely
– These are the sins that attach themselves to us.
– The things we excuse
– The things we justify
– The things we keep revisiting
Winning the race doesn’t always require running faster, sometimes it means running lighter.
⚪ 3. MAKE SURE YOUR POSITIONED FOR THAT FINAL CHARGE
13 But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13–14 (ESV)
You don’t accidentally win the race, you position yourself every step of the way!
🏁 4. KEEP YOUR EYES FOCUSED ON THE CHECKERED FLAG
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day. 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (ESV)
The Enemy of purity is division.
