Where Do We Turn When We’re Hurt?
Over the last several weeks, we’ve seen our nation rocked by tragedy. Here at Grace World, and across churches nationwide, we witnessed a wave of people returning to God’s house. In the wake of the tragic news surrounding Charlie Kirk, a multitude of first-time guests filled sanctuaries. Many who had been away declared, “I’m going to start praying, reading my Bible, and going to church again.”
Could this be the beginning of a great move of God, especially among students and young adults? I believe so, and I am praying for it!
At the same time, we’ve also seen others respond with anger and bitterness, even celebrating or condoning the martyrdom of a Christian brother.
My friend, where we turn when we’re hurt, says everything about the condition of our soul. Those with the hope of the gospel turn to Jesus. We cast our cares on Him because He cares for us. But without that hope, people turn inward to offense, to hate, to despair. This moment has exposed the deep need for the gospel. That’s why we proclaim one message: Jesus. Because He is the message the world desperately needs to hear right now.
So if you are hurting today, whatever the reason, take it to Jesus. He is our living hope. He is peace in the storm.
This past Sunday, I shared three simple steps for moments like these:
1. Pray. Lift up your family, your community, and our nation.
2. Learn. Let these moments shape us to share the hope of the gospel more effectively.
3. Stand. Stand boldly and unapologetically for truth because truth is what sets people free.
We’re in the middle of our Hot Takes series. We’ve already tackled marriage, family, and gender, and last week we looked at cancel culture. This Sunday, I’ll take on one of the most relevant and controversial topics yet. You’ll want to be in the room to hear it.
If you’re new to Grace, welcome! We’re so glad you’re here. We believe life is better together. There’s still time to join one of our Grace Groups. Groups are where deep relationships are formed, faith grows, and life in all its fullness is discovered.
Church, I love you. I’m praying for you. Let’s gather this Sunday at 10am with hearts expectant for revival.
Believing with You,
Pastor
