WEATHER-PROOFED

Series: Home Improvement | Pastor Daniel Norris

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.  In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3 (ESV)

Question: How do I prepare my home for the coming seasons of life?

Foundations > Framing > Weather-Proofing

When building a home, you are not putting up a temporary structure.  If built right, it outlasts you and is passed on to someone else.

Fruitfulness nor the withering of the leaf is guaranteed. It is where I plant myself that determines my perseverance and prosperity.

1. THE SIX SEASONS OF LIFE

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:22 (ESV)

Here is the problem…

– Because we failed in a previous season we live in regret

– Because we didn’t discern our present season we fail to sow

– Because we don’t think about the coming season we forget to plan

The Six Seasons of Life

BECOMING (The Season of Singleness)

We answer the question, “Who am I becoming?”

Remember, Direction matters more than speed.

BONDING (The Season of Togetherness)

We answer the question, “What will we build together?”

Remember where and how you build your foundation and frame determines your future perseverance and prosperity.

BLOOMING (The Season of Family)

Answer the question, “How will we reproduce ourselves?”

Remember, your consistency matters more than your intensity.

BRIDGING (The Season of Launching)

Answer the question, “How will we transition?”

Remember, the goal is not to hold tighter. The goal is to guide forward.

BROADENING (The Season of Multiplication)

Answer the question, “What does fulfillment look like now?”

Remember, this is a season of reconnection and realignment.

BLESSING (The Season of Legacy)

We answer the question, “What will outlive me?”

Remember, your presence matters more than your perfection.

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11 (ESV)

2. SECURING YOUR HOME FOR THE SEASONS

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Luke 14:28 (ESV)

Help weather-proof our homes by doing three things:

Repair From The Past Seasons

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Galatians 6:7 (ESV)

You cannot relive a season. But you can redeem it.

Reinforce In The Present Season

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)

You strengthen yourself now, not when the storm arrives.

Reinvest For The Future Season

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. Proverbs 13:22 (ESV)

You have to keep your eyes on the long road while you walk the short path.

God does not offer a storm-free life. He invites us to plant ourselves in a place where we persevere through the storms and prosper in every season of life.

You cannot choose your season, but you can choose your preparation.
