The Mystery of God: Yahweh

Psalm 103:1-5 (ESV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

What Comes to Mind When You Think About God?

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
— A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy

• A right view of God leads to strong faith.

• A low view of God leads to weak faith.

How Do I Gain a Proper Perspective of God?

David says to start here:

👉 “Bless His Holy Name.”

His Name Reveals His Nature

📖 Exodus 3:13–14 (ESV)

13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?”

14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

• YHWH (יהוה) is derived from the Hebrew verb הָיָה (hayah), meaning “to be” or “to exist.”

His name means:

• God is self-existent (He depends on nothing for His existence).

• God is eternal (He has no beginning or end).

• God is immutable (He does not change).

📌 His name reveals His nature!

His Name is Inseparable From His Attributes

📖 Exodus 33:18-19 (ESV)

18 Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” 19 And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’”

🔥 Moses asks to see His glory, and God responds… “I will proclaim My name.”

📌 Anything God is, He is—all the time.

📖 Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV)

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,

keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

1. He is… Gracious

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious.”

2. He is… Patient

“Slow to anger.”

3. He is… Love

“Abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”

4. He is… Forgiving

“Keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.”

5. He is… Just

“But who will by no means clear the guilty…”

📌 Who He is determines what He does!

His Name Reveals His Promises

  • If He is Yahweh-Jireh (Provider), He provides.
  • If He is Yahweh-Rapha (Healer), He heals.
  • If He is Yahweh-Tsidkenu (Righteousness), He makes us righteous.
  • If He is Yahweh-Nissi (Our banner), He makes us victorious
  • If He is Yahweh-Shammah (Present), He crowns us with His presence

His promises flow from His nature!

What Happens When I Praise the Lord?

📖 Psalm 22:3 (KJV)

“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”

✅ My praise builds a place for His promises to rest!

Final Thought:

📌 God is not a thing to be studied, nor is He a mystery to be solved—He is a person to be experienced

📌 Praise is the pathway to encountering His Presence and finding His promises
