The Great I Am

2 Peter 1:3–4 (ESV)

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Our Theme For 2025

Run to the secret place of Ps 91 and experience God,  seek His goodness and see His glory.  Dive deep into his divine attributes and proclaim His greatness  in your lives, your homes and all the work of your hands. Take 2 Peter as a guiding word for this next season… 

  • Everything you need is found in Christ Jesus
  • In Christ you have precious and great promises
  • Jesus has invited us to partake in the goodness of our God

Text:  John 8:51–59 (ESV)

51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.” 52 The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’ 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” 

54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ 55 But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” 

57 So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

“I” in Greek “ego” 

“Am” in Greek  “eimi” be, exist, identical. 

Four Mountain Moments That Reveal The Great I Am

#1 Mount Moriah…Where God provides

Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”  Ge 22:14.

“The Lord will provide”  Yahweh Yireh (The Lord, our provider)

True Humility recognizes that  provision does not come from a paycheck, a payment, or a payout. 

The Ram Foreshadowed The Lamb

Jesus is the provision of the Father!

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness” (vs 3)

Begin each day and every decision in Jesus; He is your provision!

#2 Mount Sinai… where God reveals his glory

Exodus 3:13–14 (ESV)

13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”

The personal name of God “Yahweh”  “I am that I am”

Exodus 34:4–7 (ESV)

5. The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 6. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7. keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

7 Things God Reveals About Himself 

  • Merciful – “a God merciful” 
  • Gracious – “a God gracious” 
  • Patient – “slow to anger” 
  • Loving – “abounding in steadfast love” 
  • Faithful – “abounding in faithfulness”
  • Forgiving – “forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin” 
  • Just – “will by no means clear the guilty”

#3 Mount Horeb… where God whispered

1 Kings 19:11–13 (ESV)

11. And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12. And after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. We have access to the throne through Christ!

#4  Mount Tabor – where God revealed his Son

Matthew 17:1–8 (ESV)

17 And after six days, Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
