The Gospel Is Revival

This Is Good News

Text: Isaiah 61:1–4; Colossians 1:28

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor;

he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,”

Now the MISSION of Jesus becomes the COMMISSION of His Church

“…that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” (Isaiah 61:3–4, ESV)

His church shall:

Rebuild

Raise Up

Repair

His mission becomes our commission.

When the church forgets its commission, it forsakes His mission.

1. Our Commission… Rebuild What’s Ruined

“They shall build up the ancient ruins…”

What is the church here for?

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.” (Colossians 1:27–29, ESV)

  • Awaken Hearts (Proclaim)

2. Our Commission… Raise Up Revivalists

“They shall raise up the former devastations…”

Five Generational Devastations:

  • The Erosion of Absolute Truth
  • The Breakdown of Family and Fatherhood
  • Sexual and Gender Confusion
  • The Hollow Promise of Materialism and Technology
  • The Failure of Cultural “Tolerance” and Cancel Culture

➡️ We have a responsibility to faithfully pass the torch to the next generation of revivalists!

Hot Takes starting September 7th

3. Our Commission… Move from Revival to Reclamation

“They shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.”

Revival is not about God doing a new thing, but about God restoring the first thing.

Revival Is Not…

  • a series of meetings
  • emotional hype
  • bigger crowds or louder songs
  • church growth or new programs
  • man’s idea, man’s agenda, or man’s glory

Revival Is…

  • God restoring His divine intent
  • The Spirit moving
  • The church awakened
  • Chains breaking
  • Holiness restored
  • Jesus lifted high
  • Heaven invading earth
  • God doing again what He has always longed to do—bring life where death has reigned

Every true revival in history left behind not only revived souls, but reformed cities.
