Satan’s Secret Playbook: Accusation
Text: Revelation 12:7-12 (ESV)
7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. 12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
Three Key Takeaways:
• The Devil is Defeated
• In the Short Time Left, He Slanders and Opposes
• Salvation and Authority Belong to Our God!
Satan’s Four Schemes
• Deception – Attack on Truth
• Accusation – Attack on Identity
• Temptation – Attack on Righteousness
• Opposition – Attack on Fruitfulness
Three Key Reminders:
1. The Devil Wants to Destroy Your Name Because He Ruined His Own.
Revelation 12:9 (ESV):
“And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”
1 Peter 5:8 (ESV):
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
His Roles Include:
• The Tempter – “And the tempter came and said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.’” (Matthew 4:3, ESV)
• The Father of Lies – “When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44, ESV)
• The Thief – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, ESV)
• The Adversary – “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8, ESV)
• The Deceiver – “And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world…” (Revelation 12:9, ESV)
2. Satan Trades in Disgrace, But Jesus Gives Grace.
Zechariah 3:1-4 (ESV):
“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, ‘The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?’ Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments. And the angel said to those who were standing before him, ‘Remove the filthy garments from him.’ And to him he said, ‘Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.’”
Galatians 6:1 (ESV):
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”
3. Satan Shouts Accusation; Heaven Declares Salvation.
Revelation 12:10 (ESV):
“And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.’”
Revelation 12:11 (ESV):
“And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
• We don’t defend ourselves—Christ has already won the victory.
• Rest in His righteousness—Satan’s accusations lose their power.

Final Thought:
Don’t let the devil get in your head. You are not defined by your failures or past. Stand in the grace of God—you are chosen, forgiven, and victorious. Satan’s accusations are powerless because your identity is secure in Christ. You don’t fight for victory—you fight from victory!
