Return to Wall-Build

Road to Revival

Main Text: Nehemiah 3:1–2 (ESV)

Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel. And next to him the men of Jericho built. And next to them

How do you start to build again after you’ve been broken?

Nehemiah shows us: You start with what’s in front of you, and you do it together.

#1 See the Vision

Nehemiah 2:17–18 (ESV)

Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.” And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

A vision…

  • Paints a picture of a better future.
  • Drives us in the right direction.
  • Rallies The Remnant

Revival starts when someone sees beyond the need and believes again.

#2 Start with Your Section

Nehemiah 3:28–30 (ESV)

Above the Horse Gate the priests repaired, each one opposite his own house. After them Zadok the son of Immer repaired opposite his own house. After him Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, repaired. After him Hananiah the son of Shelemiah and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph repaired another section. After him Meshullam the son of Berechiah repaired opposite his chamber.

• They didn’t rebuild the whole wall, just the part in front of them.

• God uses small, consistent steps to accomplish big things.

• Don’t overcomplicate it. Start where you are.

You don’t have to fix everything, just take responsibility for your part.

#3 Strive in Unity

Acts 4:32–33 (ESV)

Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

  • Unity isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a spiritual strategy.
  • Unity releases supernatural blessings.
  • Unity multiplies individual effort.

Alone, you may go fast, but together, we go far.

#4 Stay in the Fight

Nehemiah 4:17 (ESV)

Those who carried burdens were loaded in such a way that each labored on the work with one hand and held his weapon with the other.

  • They worked and warred at the same time.
  • Some days you fight. Some days you build. Most days…you do both.
  • Keep moving forward

Takeaways:

See the vision – What is God calling you to believe for again?

Start with your section – What’s right in front of you?

Strive in unity – Who are you building beside?

Stay in the fight – Will you pick up the sword and the brick?
