The Mystery of God

Psalm 103:1–5 (ESV)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and all that is within me,

bless his holy name!

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and forget not all his benefits,

3 who forgives all your iniquity,

who heals all your diseases,(Yahweh Rapha)

4 who redeems your life from the pit,

who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

5 who satisfies you with good

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Review:

Yahweh – “I am who I am”

Yahweh Tsidkenu – “I am your righteousness”

Yahweh Rapha – “I am your Healer”

Question:  If God is THE HEALER, how do I receive healing?

FIRST: PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE ONE WHO CALLS HIMSELF YOUR HEALER

“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.” (Exodus 15:26, ESV)

Two Notes:

A. Disobedience Invites a Curse

“Do that which is right… I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians.”

God did not make them sick; He allowed the consequences of their sin to take effect.

Three reasons people get sick:

1. The consequence of my own poor decisions

2. The consequence of someone or something else

3. The consequence of living in a fallen world

B. God Calls Himself OUR (Not A) Healer

“For I am the Lord, your healer.”

Rapha – to heal, repair, rebuild; healer or to make healthy again

I can trust that MY HEALER has what is BEST in mind for me.

Three Key Attributes of God

1. God is IMMUTABLE

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6, ESV)

If HE WAS THE HEALER THEN, I can trust that HE IS MY HEALER NOW!

2. God is GOOD

“The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.” (Psalm 145:9, ESV)

God is not the cause of my illness, but He is the cure.

3. God is OMNIPOTENT

“Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.” (Jeremiah 32:17, ESV)

No matter HOW BIG the disease, GOD is BIGGER.

NEXT: FOCUS YOUR FAITH ON HIS PROMISES

“And the people came to Moses and said, ‘We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.’ So Moses prayed for the people. And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.’ So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.” (Numbers 21:7–9, ESV)

Parenting 101

Responsibility = Reward

Rule = Result

Good parents know not to come between the Rule and the Result.

The consequence to our choices teach character

God’s remedy was to take the CONSEQUENCE of their SIN, place it on a pole, and lift it up.

This is a Prophetic Sign of HOW GOD WILL ULTIMATELY HEAL

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” (John 3:14–15, NIV)

Where I focus my faith sets the direction of my life.

📖 Psalm 91:9-10, 14-16 (ESV)

“Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. ‘Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.’”

Healing Comes by Three Means:

• Naturally (God’s design)

• Medically (God’s gift of wisdom)

• Supernaturally (God’s intervention)

Practical Wisdom for Walking in Healing:

• Don’t Despise Wise Counsel

• Guard Your Heart (Protect your environment)

• Ask the Holy Spirit (Don’t dismiss His promptings)

• Pray the Prayer of Faith

• Walk in Healing

Remember… Healing is a gift of grace, received by faith.
