It’s A Season, Not A Sentence

This past Sunday, we stepped into a powerful moment from the life of David. He had been betrayed. He was on the run…again, leaving the city, with everything feeling like it was unraveling.

And then a man named Shimei shows up. He was throwing stones, hurling accusations, and speaking with confidence about something he didn’t understand (2 Samuel 16:5–8, ESV).

Shimei thought he had it figured out, “This is judgment. This is the consequence. This is the end of David’s story.”

But he was wrong.

David was not under condemnation. He was in restoration. God had already met him in repentance, and now He was walking him through a process. What looked like punishment was actually preparation.

This message deeply resonated with many of us.

If we’re honest, we have all been there and have done the same thing. We walk through a hard season and start rewriting the story. We tell ourselves, “This is just how it’s going to be.” We start believing the pain is permanent and confuse a season with a sentence.

But God does not work that way.

Every season has an expiration date. Every chapter turns, and if we trust His Word, then we know this: He is working all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28, ESV).

That means even now, God is writing, restoring, and moving on your behalf.

So whether the pressure is coming from voices around you or from thoughts within you, the call is the same: surrender the season to God. Trust Him in it. Let Him do what only He can do.

He has a way of rewriting stories for those who stay surrendered in the process.

This Sunday, we close out our Giant Slayer series by looking at the end of David’s life. And it raises a question every one of us has to answer:

How will I finish?

This is a moment for each of us, especially for the men in the house. We don’t just want to start strong. We want to finish well. Not leaving behind regret, but leaving behind a legacy.

David leaves five things behind at the end of his life. Each one carries a lesson we need to see and live.

We’re going to walk through that together this weekend.

Also, you’re going to love what’s happening with our students. We’ll be featuring some of their Fine Arts presentations, and there are a few special moments you won’t want to miss.

Make plans to be in the room this Sunday at 10am.

There’s something powerful about what God is doing in this season at Grace. And it’s true…there’s no place like Grace.

Looking forward to seeing you.
