5. Wars in Ukraine/Russia, Oct. 7
C. It seems we are in the end times
1. The difference is Israel.
D. ABORTION: The end times will be characterized by growing anti-Semitism worldwide.
1. I wrote in Birth Pangs three years ago that Israel would become more controversial than abortion.
II. Since Oct 7 Satan has spewed a spirit of hatred on planet earth.
A. Things that people would never have said out loud, are posted and reposted on Twitter and TikTok all day long.
B. Tucker Carlson, Israel is killingChristians…
III. This is nothing new for the Jews.
A. There have been 53 attempted genocides against Israel. And I want to talk to you about one of them in a minute.
1. “I think it is really unfortunate that people don’t care about the fact that all Jewish kids should be kept safe and that we should not have to tolerate antisemitism or bigotry for all Jewish students, whether they are pro-genocide or anti-genocide,”
2. Iran calls for Irsael’s destruction daily, Hamas would have, Hezbollah has rockets, etc. Daily in schools in the ME they call for genocide…but ISrael never calls for genocidie.
3.
IV. Church Fathers
A. They were reacting to pro-jewish Christians.
1. These were brilliant church, doctors, who did not just argue for the sake of argument. They were not arguing against shadows. There was clearly many, a sizable minority, who loved the Jewish people. This was a threat to many church fathers.
B. Origen of Alexandria
1. We may thus assert in utter confidence that the Jews will not return to their earlier situation, for they have committed the most abominable of crimes, in forming this conspiracy against the Savior of the human race . . .
C. Justin Martyr:
1. The custom of circumcising the flesh, handed down from Abraham, was given to you as a distinguishing mark, to set you off from other nations and from us Christians. The purpose of this was that you and only you might suffer the afflictions that are now justly yours; that only your land be desolated, and your cities ruined by fire, that the fruits of your land be eaten by strangers before your very eyes; that not one of you be permitted to enter your city of Jerusalem. Your circumcision of the flesh is the only mark by which you can certainly be distinguished from other men. . . . As I stated before, it was by reason of your sins and the sins of your fathers that, among other precepts, God imposed upon you the observance of the Sabbath as a mark. (emphasis mine)
2. God gave these commandments to Israel because of its uniquely sinful orientation. Thus the Sabbath commandment was necessary because Israel was incapable of remembering God daily ([Dialogue] Chap. 19). Observance of the Sabbath ensured that they would at least remember God weekly!
D. John Chrysostom
1. The synagogue is worse than a brothel, it is the den of scoundrels and the repair of wild beasts . . . the temple of demons devoted to idolatrous cults . . . the refuge of brigands and debauchees, and the cavern of devils. It is a criminal assembly of Jews . . . a place of meeting for the assassins of Christ, a house worse than a drinking shop . . . a den of thieves, a house of ill fame, a dwelling of iniquity, the refuge of devils, a gulf, an abyss of perdition. . . . I would say the same things about their souls. . . . As for me, I hate the synagogue. . . . I hate the Jews for the same reason. (emphasis mine)
a) God hates the Jews, and on Judgement Day He will say to those who sympathize with them: “Depart from me, for you have had doings with My murderers!” (Sermon VI)
b) How dare Christians have the slightest doings with Jews, those most miserable of all men! They are lustful, rapacious, greedy, perfidious bandits, pests of the universe. (Sermon
c) Why are the Jews degenerate? Because of their hateful assassination of Christ. (Sermon VI)
d) I hate the synagogue and abhor it. (Sermon I)
e) We must hate both them and their synagogue. (Sermon I)
V. Over the next thousands years:
A. In 1099, the Catholic Church dispatched Crusaders to reclaim the Holy Land from Muslim control. The Jewish population in Israel, seeking compassion, took refuge in the Great Synagogue. The Christian mercenaries set the synagogue ablaze, killing everyone inside. “They burned the Jews alive in the chief synagogue [of Jerusalem], circling the screaming, flame-tortured humanity singing ‘Christ We Adore Thee!’ with their Crusader crosses held high.” (David Rausch)
B. In 1243, the entire Jewish community of Berlin was burned alive. What was their crime? They were accused of torturing a communion wafer after it was blessed—meaning they were able to torture Jesus because of their belief in transubstantiation. For that, genocide was committed. Three hundred years later, twenty-six Jews were burned alive and two beheaded for the same crime.
C. Michael Brown says hundreds of thousands of “Christians” believed the lie that Jews caused the bubonic plague by poisoning the wells of Europe. “Thousands of Jews were butchered by angry mobs.” The children of the murdered Jews were then baptized and raised as Christians. It should be noted that Jews died of the plague at the same rate as everyone else.
D.
E. In the late middle ages 1000s of Jews were raped and murdered by Christian Crusaders
F. when the Crusaders captured Jerusalem in 1099, the Jews fled to the Great Synagogue, which the Crusaders then set on fire, burn- ing the Jews alive. David Rausch provides a vivid account: “They burned the Jews alive in the chief synagogue [of Jerusalem], circling the scream- ing, flame-tortured humanity singing ‘Christ We Adore Thee!’ with their Crusader crosses held high.”1
G. In 1348-1349 the Black Death ravaged Europe, wiping out about one-third of Europe’s entire population. Who was to blame? The Jews of course! (The fact that the Black Plague also killed multitudes of Jews didn’t seem to bother anyone.) Just how did the Jews execute such a wide-ranging plan of destruction? They secretly contaminated the wells with a poisonous mixture made of spiders, lizards, and the hearts of Christians mixed together with the sacred elements of the Lord’s Supper.2
H. In 1215, the Fourth Lateran Council accepted the doctrine of transubstantiation as official Church dogma. This dogma asserted that the wafer used at the Mass was miraculously transformed into the body of Jesus…. [This] belief in the doctrine of transubstantiation led to the torture and murder of thousands of Jews. Since Jesus is brought to life through the wafer, would not the Jews who had once crucified him wish to torture and kill him again? In 1243…[Berlin’s] entire Jewish community was burned alive for allegedly torturing a wafer….
I. Ritual murder “April 26, 1343. A ritual murder accusation is raised against the Jews of Germersheim, Germany. Thereupon, the town’s whole Jewish community is burned at the stake.”6
J.
VI. Luther
A. First, their synagogues should be set on fire. . . . Secondly, their homes should likewise be broken down and destroyed. . . .Thirdly, they should be deprived of their prayer-books and Talmuds. . . . Fourthly, their rabbis must be forbidden under threat of death to teach any more. . . . Fifthly, passport and traveling privileges should be absolutely forbidden to the Jew. . . . Sixthly, they ought to be stopped from usury [charging interest on loans]. . . . Seventhly, let the young and strong Jews and Jewesses be given the flail, the ax, the hoe, the spade, the distaff, and spindle, and let them earn their bread by the sweat of their noses. . . .We ought to drive the rascally lazy bones out of our system. . . . Therefore away with them. . . . To sum up, dear princes and nobles who have Jews in your domains, if this advice of mine does not suit you, then find a better one so that you and we may all be free of this insufferable devilish burden—the Jews.
VII. Hitler
A. Fredrich Mar used the phrase antisemitism in the 1800s.
B. Wilhelm Marr, a German journalist who was a Jew-hater, popularized the term in the late nineteenth century. He contended that Jews, including those who had converted to Christianity, were incapable of assimilating. Once a Jew, always a Jew. According to Marr, Jews were dangerous because their goal was “to harm Germanic identity” and to destroy “the Germanic.” Nothing could alter their foreign-ness, including changing their religion. Consequently, Marr rejected the term Judenhass, Jew-hatred, because even Jews who now considered themselves Christians were still objects of his hatred. Seeking a word that had a racial and “scientific” connotation rather than a religious one, he chose Antisemitismus(capitalized because all nouns are capitalized in German). For him and the legions of people who adopted this word, it meant one thing and one thing only: hating members of the Jewish “race.”
C. The Nazi’s, while not Christian, needed German Christians and they had a problemmost: Jesus!
D. In 1939, writes Susana Heschel TheInstitute for the Study and Eradication of Jewish Influence on German Church Lifewas established in 1939 in order to purge Christianity of all Jewish accretions and restore it to its pristine Aryan origins,
1. (Institut zur Erforschung und Beseitigung des jüdischen Einflusses auf das deutsche kirchliche Leben).
2. Goals
a) Create a dejudaized Germany for a Germany without Jews
b) New biblical interpretations
c) redefined Christianity as a Germanic religion whose founder, Jesus, was no Jew but rather had fought valiantly to destroy Judaism,
d) Germans were called to participate in Jesus’ struggle against the Jews.
E. 13Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and children—on a single day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods.
Throughout history many have tried to destroy the Jews, from the time of the exodus to the twentieth century. Christians must be careful never to support in any way the rise of anti-Semitism, although it often has been “in the name of Christ” that such pogroms have taken place. Christians ought to be active in the fight against anti-Semitism as
When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
When Christians see the beginnings of anti-Semitism, they must realize that they must raise their voices against it for two reasons: (1) it is against the will of God, and (2) similar persecution could fall on them as well. Those who have persecuted the Jews have always come to ruin. We must still take seriously God’s promise to Abraham and his descendants: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Gen 12:3).
Again the author alluded to a principal theme of the book, that God takes care of his people Israel; he will deliver them when enemies try to destroy them.
