HOT TAKES: TRUTH

Whose Truth is THE TRUTH?

Hot Take Questions (today)

  • Is gender God’s design or a human invention?
  • Is marriage a sacred covenant worth defending or an outdated tradition?
  • What happens when a home is out of order and who pays the price?

Whose truth is the truth?

Jesus didn’t offer multiple versions of truth. He said, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” and “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 8:32; John 14:6, ESV).

Foundational Statements

  • We believe Scripture is the inspired, infallible Word of God.
  • We believe God is good.
  • We believe Jesus is the only way of salvation.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit is alive and active in the Church today.

What do we do with cultures HOT TAKES?

Take #1 We LOOK TO THE BOOK

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17, ESV).

What sets us apart from the people of the world  is that we are people of the Word.

What does the Bible actually say?

Tools: Concordance • Bible App search • (ChatGPT—with caution)

Remember the Goal is not proof-texting but truth-finding.

Simple Hermeneutics

  • Look Back – What is the history? Who is the Author and audience?
    • A text cannot mean something new to us that it didn’t mean to them .
  • Look Around – what is the context.
  • Look Up – What does this reveal about God?
  • Look Forward – What is the Timeless truth.

Identity is rooted in God. Marriage is sacred before God. Family is a blessing from God.

Take # 2 His Word Changes Us; We Don’t Change His Word

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (Romans 12:2, ESV).

  • syschēmatizō = pressed into the world’s mold.
  • metamorphoō = changed into something new.
  • Renewal = made new and better by the Word.

Contrast the claims:

The World contends Gender a spectrum we define.
The Word teaches us Gender is good, and given (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13–14, ESV).

The world says Marriage is a social contract.
The Word says Marriage is a sacred covenant

“what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:6; cf. Matthew 19:9; Romans 7:2–3, ESV).

The World says a Family can be anything.
The Word teaches Family is ordained and blessed by God (Genesis 1:28; Psalm 127:1, ESV).

Never forget it is the tactic of the enemy to say…  “Did God really say…?” (Genesis 3:1, ESV).

Original sin wasn’t about eating fruit, it was about taking good and evil into your own hands

The question isn’t, “Whose truth feels right?” but, “Whose truth will I submit to?”

Take #3 Keep It Centered on Christ

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in himestablished in the faith” (Colossians 2:6–7, ESV).

Truth isn’t a philosophy—it’s a Person.

1) Walk in Him
“so walk in him”

  • We follow His Words  (unwavering in truth) (John 17:17; John 14:6).
  • We practice His Ways (unconditional in love) (John 1:14; Ephesians 4:15).

2) Build upon Him

“rooted and built up in him”

My identity is centered on Christ:

  • “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17,).
  • “I have been crucified with Christ… Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).

My marriage built on Christ:

My Home honors Christ (Ephesians 5:22-31).

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1, ESV).

My Home Honors Christ (Ephesians 5–6)

  • Christ is the CENTER
    • “…giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20, ESV).
    • Begin and end your days with Christ. Pray together, give thanks together, and let His Word shape your decisions.
  • The Husband is the HEAD
    • “For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior” (Ephesians 5:23, ESV).
    • Lead with Christlike sacrifice. Be the first to serve, the first to forgive, and the first to set the spiritual tone in your home.
  • The Wife HELPS
    • “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22, ESV).
    • Support with your strength. Speak life, offer wisdom, and work as a partner so the family flourishes.
  • The Children HONOR
    • “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ (this is the first commandment with a promise)” (Ephesians 6:1–2, ESV).
    • Show respect in words and actions. Contribute to the home instead of just consuming from it.

3) Faith in Him
“established in the faith”

  • We build our worldview on Christ.
  • We never apologize for believing in Him (Colossians 2:8–10, ESV).
