Foundations Aren’t Always Fun
This morning I was walking the construction site between our two buildings. Right behind the dome, a deep hole has been dug, and within it sits a new lift station, ready to be hooked up in the coming days. There’s dirt everywhere, large construction equipment scattered around, and bright caution tape marking the area.
All of this work is foundational. It’s preparing the way for our future atrium and positioning us to begin renovations on our Family Life Center.
As I’ve walked the site with our contractors, it’s been evident—countless hours and resources have been poured into getting us to this point. Foundations require investment.
They aren’t always exciting, but they are absolutely necessary. Before anything goes up, the foundation must go down.
The same is true in our lives. Before we build anything lasting—whether in our faith, our family, or our future—we must first ensure our foundations are firm.
Jesus said it this way:
“The wise man built his house upon the rock… and when the rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25).
I am so grateful for the foundations God has established in our lives. His boundaries, His direction, His Word—they are not restrictions; they are protections. When I was younger, I resisted those boundaries, thinking they were holding me back. But now, I rejoice in them because I see them for what they truly are—God’s loving hand, securing my steps and setting me up for something greater.
Let me ask you, how are the foundations in your life?
Is your marriage, your home, your future being built upon the solid Rock of Christ? Or are you standing on shifting sands—trusting in culture, opinions, or temporary comforts that erode with every passing storm?
Listen, foundations require discipline. Discipleship isn’t always fun—it’s foundational. And what is foundational matters most.
I cannot wait for this Sunday! We will be celebrating the baptism of nearly 20 people who have made a public declaration of their faith in Christ. It’s going to be a powerful morning you do not want to miss!
Also, I’ll be diving into one of Jesus’ most powerful I AM statements: “I am the Good Shepherd.” If you’d like to read ahead, take a look at John 10.
I’ll see you Sunday!
Grace To You,
Pastor
