Defying the Odds This Christmas
I just saw that the largest lottery jackpot in history is up for grabs this week. The odds of winning the Powerball? 1 in 292 million.
Still, people line up, willing to risk hard-earned money, hoping that a lucky ticket might change their lives.
Here are a few more odds to consider:
- Finding a four-leaf clover: 1 in 5,000
- Filling out a perfect March Madness bracket: 1 in 9.2 quintillion
- Becoming a pro athlete: 1 in 6,000
- Being struck by lightning: 1 in 15,300
But here’s the one that gets me. The odds of you existing, being born at this time, in this place, with your exact DNA is estimated at 1 in 10^2,685,000. In other words, a number so vast that it consists of about 3 million zeros, making it nearly statistically impossible.
They say you’re either a cosmic accident or the luckiest person alive.
They’re wrong.
You’re not an accident. You’re not here by chance. Before He formed you in the womb, He knew you. Every one of your days was written before one came to be (Psalm 139:13–16).
You’ve always been part of God’s story. He wrote hope into your story long before your first breath.
This Christmas, you may know someone grasping for hope. Hoping a gift, a moment, or even a miracle will bring a little joy into their life. Maybe that someone is you.
But hope isn’t a product of chance or luck.
Hope has a name.
Hope is Jesus.
Man, that sounds like a message worth sharing this Sunday!
This weekend, we’re in the heart of the Christmas season, and there’s so much happening for you and your family. Here are a few highlights you’ll want to make sure are on your calendar:
- This Sunday, December 14th: Grace Leadership Academy choir will be ministering during the service.
- Saturday, December 20th: Christmas Toy Distribution. We’re still collecting toys to bless children in our community. If you would love to help, we are also still in need of volunteers.
- Sunday, December 21st: Christmas Family Service. Grace Kids, Ascend Student Ministries, and Grace Worship will all be participating in this special service.
- Wednesday, December 24th: Candlelight Christmas Communion at 5pm.
Bring your family. Invite a friend. Let’s celebrate the One who defied every odd to bring us hope.
See you this Sunday!
Blessings,
Pastor Daniel
