Battle for the Anointing
This Means War
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:12–13 (ESV)
There is a battle for your anointing.
“The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.” (John 10:10)
The enemy’s strategy hasn’t changed:
- He steals
- He kills
- He destroys
Jezebel is a demonic influence operating in the unseen realm. She wants your authority, your altar, your abundance, and your anointing.
So, the question is: How do you win the battle for your anointing?
2 Kings 9:30–37 (ESV)
30 When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window. 31 And as Jehu entered the gate, she said, “Is it peace, you Zimri, murderer of your master?” 32 And he lifted up his face to the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 33 He said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down. And some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and they trampled on her. 34 Then he went in and ate and drank. And he said, “See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.” 35 But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. 36 When they came back and told him, he said, “This is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite: ‘In the territory of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel, 37 and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the territory of Jezreel, so that no one can say, This is Jezebel.’ ”
#1 JEHU SHOWS US… YOU CAN’T CAST OUT WHAT YOU COZY UP TO
“I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel.” (Revelation 2:20, ESV)
Tolerate — (Greek: aphíēmi) — “to let, to allow, to leave it to.”
When you tolerate Jezebel, she won’t stop until she takes over the whole house.
Five Signs You’re Dealing with Jezebel
1. Spirituality without Surrender
“Do not believe every spirit… every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist.” (1 John 4:3, ESV)
Is Jesus glorified as Lord?
2. Power through Pressure
“There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel, his wife, incited.” (1 Kings 21:25, ESV)
Are your decisions shaped by biblical principles or by pressure from people?
3. Mockery in the Message
“As Jehu entered the gate, she said, ‘Is it peace, you Zimri, murderer of your master?’” (2 Kings 9:31, ESV)
When truth is spoken, is the response humility or hostility?
4. Fear Replaces Faith
“Then he was afraid… and came and sat down under a broom tree.” (1 Kings 19:3–4, ESV)
Do you feel anxious, silenced, or second-guessing obedience where there should be courage?
5. Seduction in the Strategy
“What peace can there be, so long as the whorings and sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?” (2 Kings 9:22, ESV)
Are you lowering standards of purity and truth through little compromises?
Is there room in a believer’s life for worldly tolerance?
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14, ESV)
#2 JEHU TEACHES US – YOU CANNOT TALK HER DOWN; YOU THROW HER DOWN.
“And he lifted up his face to the window and said, ‘Who is on my side? Who?’ Two or three eunuchs looked out at him. And he said, ‘Throw her down.’” (2 Kings 9:32–33, ESV)
Jezebel’s mark:
She steals their power.
She kills their voice.
She destroys their legacy.
What Jezebel emasculated, Jehu empowered.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4–5, NKJV)
#3 JEHU SHOWS US… YOU HAVE TO TAKE BACK WHAT SHE TOOK AWAY.
“And he said, ‘See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.’ But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. When they came back and told him, he said, ‘This is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite:’” (2 Kings 9:34–37, ESV)
Three Domains You Must Exchange
1. The Head — Your Thought
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God — what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, ESV)
metanoia — a complete change of mind.
2. The Hands — Your Work and Worship
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23–24, ESV)
Say in your heart, “I’m not doing this for me. I’m doing this for the Lord.”
3. The Heels — Your Authority
“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.” (Joshua 1:3, ESV)
Where Jezebel is tolerated, she steals territory in your home, your finances, your marriage, and your children.
Take an honest inventory:
Where has Jezebel been tolerated in your life or home?
Where has compromise crept in?
