Are You Waiting For The Waters To Be Stirred?
How many messages have you heard preached that proclaim, “when the waters are stirred jump in!”?
That thought comes from the familiar story of the pool of Bethesda. There we find a lame man waiting by the waters of the pool alongside a multitude of other lame, blind and paralyzed individuals. They were waiting for an angel to stir the waters. The moment the waters were stirred, everybody would jump in believing that the first person into the water would receive their healing.
Here’s the problem with this teaching. First, this was a cult that believed and preached a myth. Scripture doesn’t teach us to put faith in such mindless fables. Second, nowhere in history do we find that anyone was ever healed in these waters. This was just a house that preached and proclaimed a message but never produced what it promised. Lord, never let us be guilty of doing the same!
One day, Jesus walked into that very place. When He walked in, everything changed. He comes to that paralyzed man and asks, “do you want to be healed?”. The man’s response was, “I have no one to help me into the pool.” Jesus’s reply was simple, “get up and walk.”
At that moment the man had one simple choice, wait for the waters to stir, or obey the words Jesus spoke.
What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for the waters of religion, routines and rituals to be stirred or are you listening to the words Jesus is speaking?
The tragic irony of that day around the pool was that multitudes of individuals who needed to be healed, missed out because they were watching the waters rather than seeing the healer. Healing walked into the room. Healing walked into disfunction. Healing stepped in and everyone missed out.
My friends, Jesus is in the room with you. He is already speaking a word of freedom, deliverance, healing, and salvation. That word is available right now for you and for us. There is a life altering encounter awaiting those who recognize it.
Don’t miss the moment today and don’t miss the opportunity this weekend. When Jesus walks into the room, everything changes!
