Day 19

The Power of Gathering

By: Sarah Brosher

“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”
(Hebrews 10:25, NLT)

There is a reason Scripture tells us not to neglect gathering together. Something powerful happens when the people of God come together. God never meant for us to walk through this life alone. I have seen time and time again how God has moved through the sound of His people when we lift our voices together as one.

When we come together in worship, something beautiful happens. Our faith begins to rise, and heaven meets earth. Being alone might seem easier, but it is rarely fruitful. A fire needs proximity in order to burn more brightly. That is why the enemy loves to isolate us and tries so hard to keep us divided and separated. The enemy knows that distance weakens our fire.

When we are together, we see the Holy Spirit move in ways that do not happen when we are alone. Yes, spending time with Him privately keeps our fire burning, but worshiping corporately turns that fire into something unstoppable. That fire not only ignites us, but it ignites everyone around us.

I have witnessed many moments in worship where the tangible presence of God filled the room because the church collectively lifted up the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit was moving, not out of emotion and not out of force, but because our hearts were unified.

I am reminded of the story of Joshua and the people of Israel walking around the walls of Jericho. God could have told Joshua to march alone, but He did not. Instead, He called an entire nation to move together as one. Day after day, they walked and circled the city together. And when the time came to shout, it was not one voice that broke out, but the united sound of many. The walls fell because they were united in obedience and sound. Their unified faith became a force that shook the walls.

Imagine what would happen if all believers gathered corporately today, not out of obligation to show up, but with a burning expectation for God to move. When we worship and pray together, the atmosphere changes, and His glory falls.

Reflection:

  • What keeps you from gathering consistently with other believers?
  • When have you experienced a breakthrough or renewal through corporate worship?
  • How can you encourage others to value and protect the gathering of God’s people?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the gift of gathering. Thank You for the power of Your Presence that fills the room when Your people come together. Stir my heart to never take it for granted. When I am tempted to withdraw, draw me back to community. Reignite my love for Your church. Help me to bring faith and expectancy into every gathering. Just as You brought down the walls of Jericho through a united people, bring down walls in our lives and in our city as we worship together. In Jesus’ name, amen.
