Day 15
A Home of Peace And Presence
By: Jacob King
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
(Psalm 91:1-2, NIV)
Each Sunday in Grace Kids, we share three tips to have an incredible service: honor God, honor each other, and have an attitude of gratitude. These aren’t just ways to get children to behave; they are heart postures that set the atmosphere for what God wants to do. When we choose to honor and welcome God, treat one another with love and respect, and live with gratitude, we make space for the peace and presence of Holy Spirit to rest on our lives and in our homes.
When our home becomes a place where God is honored, people are valued, and gratitude flows freely, the atmosphere shifts. The fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—begin to take root.
Psalm 91:1–2 says, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” A home that honors God becomes a shelter of peace, a place where hearts find rest in His presence.
Jesus reaffirmed this in John 14:27 when He said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” His peace is not determined by circumstances or emotions. It is a gift for those who choose to walk with His Spirit.
As you continue in this season of fasting and prayer, my prayer for you is that the peace that surpasses understanding will fill your heart and home. There will be moments when peace will not feel natural, when the day has been hard, when words were sharp, or when exhaustion tries to steal your joy, but peace is not always a feeling. Peace is a decision.
It is the decision to honor God when it would be easier to complain. It is the decision to honor others even when you feel misunderstood. It is the decision to walk in the Spirit when your emotions want to take control.
On the drive home after a rough day, whisper a prayer. Ask God to soften your heart toward those who have hurt you. Prepare yourself to walk through your front door with love, joy, and gentleness. As you do, you will not only invite peace into your house, but you will create a dwelling place for His Presence.
Reflection:
- What does it look like to “honor God, honor others, and live with gratitude” in your home this week?
- What atmosphere are you inviting or tolerating in your home?
- How can you intentionally choose peace, even when you do not feel it?
Prayer:
Father, let my home be a dwelling place of Your Spirit. Fill it with Your peace and Presence. Teach me to honor You, honor those around me, and walk in gratitude each day. Even when I do not feel it, help me choose peace and live out the fruit of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
